Jesus Was Sent to Us

Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession....
Hebrews 3:1

The writer of the book of Hebrews told the brethren that, because of all Jesus has done for them, they have become partakers of the heavenly calling––the Spirit of God dwells within them.

As Christians, we can experience the same heavenly blessing because we have become partakers of eternal life through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us. As soon as we accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior, we became partakers of a heavenly calling through His grace, love, and mercy. Our relationship with Christ is important. It is only as we make Him Lord and Savior of our lives that we can fully be partakers of a holy and heavenly calling.

In our position in Christ, we are to consider Jesus in His title as the Apostle. The word Apostle means “one sent forth,” “a delegate,” or “an ambassador of the Gospel.” It is used of Jesus to describe His relationship to God because it was God who sent Him to be an Apostle to us:

Galatians 4:4-5: But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
1 John 4:9: In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.

God loved us so much that He sent His Son to save us: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Praise God for sending His Son to die for us!

So completely was Jesus bent upon saving sinners by the sacrifice of himself, He created the tree upon which he was to die, and nurtured from infancy the men who were to nail Him to the accursed wood.
