Wrestling Against Spiritual Hosts
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Ephesians 6:12
When any person wrestles with someone who is flesh and blood they can see their opponent and pin him down. It is not so with spiritual warfare. Christians cannot visibly see demonic spirits. Yet a battle exists between good angels and fallen angels for the souls of men. Christians have the assurance of God’s protection. His heavenly angels watch over us, and they protect us.
Daniel was a man of prayer. He prayed three times a day, continuously for three entire weeks: In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled (Daniel 10:2-3). Unable to see the spiritual battle, Daniel was unaware of the reason for the delay in receiving an answer to his prayers.
Satan himself fought to keep a heavenly angelic messenger from reaching Daniel with the answer to his prayer. Michael, a powerful archangel assisted the angel. He fought hand to hand combat against demons. He battled through demonic ranks, to help Daniel to receive an answer to his prayer:
“Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia [a strong demon with great authority] withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia...” (Daniel 10:12-13).
God will answer the prayer of a righteous man (James 5:16).
Under Christ, as the Head, angels are the guardians of the church.
