The Captain of Our Salvation

For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
Hebrews 2:10

Jesus is the Captain of our Salvation! How amazing it is for us to understand what Jesus has done on our behalf. The word Captain means “the chief leader,” “author” or “prince.” In Acts 5:30-31, the Apostle Peter witnessed of Christ to the Jews. He named Jesus Prince with a deeper insight: “...God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.”

Jesus took upon Himself the judgment for our sin. He freed us so we can live our lives without bondage to sin. The beautiful grace of God has been given to us. I love what Christ has accomplished on our behalf. Jesus has made us sons and daughters of glory! We have been adopted into the family of God: “I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty” (2 Corinthians 6:18).

All that Jesus has attained for us was through His suffering. He was beaten so severely, He was hardly recognizable as a man. In Isaiah 53, a prophecy was written about all Jesus endured to secure our salvation:

Isaiah 53:2-3: He has no form or comeliness; and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him. He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
Isaiah 53:5: But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter....

Do you want Jesus to be your Captain? Then repeat this prayer by faith after me: “Dear Jesus, be Captain of my life and save my soul. I admit that I am a sinner in need of a Savior. Please forgive me of my sins. Fill my life with your Holy Spirit and help me to follow You, my Captain.”

Dare, dare, my dear brethren in Christ, to follow the Captain of your salvation, who was made perfect through sufferings.
