Are You Born Again?
“Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
John 3:7-8
In Scripture, Jesus symbolically used the wind when He explained to Nicodemus, a Pharisee, about being born again. The new birth is a regeneration that happens divinely through the power of the Holy Spirit. Unless a person is born anew, they cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. Jesus told Nicodemus, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3).
Although Nicodemus was intelligent, he did not understand Jesus’ words about being born again. He thought of going back into his mother’s womb. Jesus was not speaking of a physical birth. He was speaking of being born again by the Word of God and by the power of the Holy Spirit: “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (John 3:5). Water in the Scriptures is symbolic of the Word of God. People have to respond to the Word of God and come to a place of repentance.
I can see the effects of the wind in an ocean breeze, as the wind causes waves to build up and makes the palm trees sway, but I cannot reach out to touch the wind. I cannot grasp anything. The wind can be very powerful; it can scatter objects and cause great destruction. When someone is born again, it is a powerful, supernatural occurrence––it is the power of God’s Spirit.
The Spirit of God confirms in our hearts what has happened to us: The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God... (Romans 8:16). We trust by faith that God’s Holy Spirit is now living in our hearts; we cannot depend on our emotions.
Have you been born again? If not, all you need to do is, by faith, repent of your sins and ask Jesus to forgive you and fill you with His Holy Spirit.
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
~John 3:6~
