Jesus Is Crowned With God’s Glory

For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.
Hebrews 2:8-9

There is nothing in the universe that will be withheld from the authority of Jesus Christ. For now, we do not see a complete fulfillment of all things being placed under Him. Instead, there is an unfolding––a revelation of what the future holds:

Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. For “He has put all things under His feet.” But when He says “all things are put under Him,” it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all (1 Corinthians 15:24-28).

The writer of Hebrews focused on what has been revealed in the Person of Jesus Christ. Philippians 2:6-8 has given us a beautiful description of Christ, who in all humility, took upon Himself human flesh:

...who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death ... the death of the cross.

Sinners crowned Jesus with a crown of thorns. He went to the Cross and nails were driven through His hands and feet. He tasted death––an agonizing death on the Cross. Our King resurrected and now sits at the right hand of God as King of kings, Lord of lords. Jesus exchanged a crown of thorns when God crowned Him with glory and honor.

Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon the throne ... Awake my soul of Him who died for thee, and hail Him the matchless King throughout all eternity.
