The Governing Authority of Man and of Christ

For He has not put the world to come, of which we speak, in subjection to angels. But one testified in a certain place, saying: “What is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You take care of him? You have made him a little lower than the angels; You have crowned him with glory and honor, and set him over the works of Your hands. You have put all things in subjection under his feet.”
Hebrews 2:5-8

Angels are not in charge of God’s Creation. In the book of Genesis, we find that it was Man who was first given dominion over the earth. After God made Adam and Eve, his intent was for mankind to have dominion over all the earth:

“Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth” (Genesis 1:26).

Although men are so fragile in comparison to the power of angels, God in His wisdom made the decision to set him over the work of His hands––earth. When Satan tempted Eve to sin, and Adam partook of the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the earth became Satan’s domain. That is why in the wilderness, Satan tempted Jesus with having all the kingdoms of the world:

Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me” (Matthew 4:8-9).

Jesus overcame Satan’s temptations through God’s Word: “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ” But are you curious to know what will happen to the earth in the future? Will it always be under the authority of Satan?

When Jesus died on the Cross, He not only won our salvation, He was found worthy to take back the title deed to the earth (Revelation 5). In the future, Jesus will create a new heaven and a new earth (Revelation 21:1).
