In One Accord
When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Acts 2:1
Remember, Christ’s Disciples had joyfully and obediently gone to an upper room in Jerusalem. They were no longer scattered because of fear. There were 120 followers of Christ who were worshiping the Lord together in one place. Mary, the mother of Jesus, and His half-brothers were also among them.
These Christian men and women had a common bond of love. There were no divisions among them. In one accord, they patiently waited and earnestly prayed for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. They could not do anything for Christ in their own strength. Christ called them to be His witnesses, but they first needed to be empowered by God’s Spirit––so they waited.
Among the congregation, there are people who do not know Christ. They often come to church seeking and searching for God. When believers in Christ come together in one accord to worship the Lord, the Holy Spirit is able to minister to them. While sitting among us, those who do not know Christ see God’s love flowing through our lives. The truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ touches their hearts. They begin to realize God is real, because they can see the reality of His love, joy and peace through the lives of believers around them.
Do you realize you are a living testimony of God’s love to others? The Gospel of Jesus Christ dwells in you––in your earthen vessel. In prayer, wait on the Lord daily for His empowerment. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, you will become a living witness and testimony of the reality of Christ’s eternal existence. Those who do not know Christ will want what you have and seek to find Christ and receive Him as their Savior.
As the sun can be seen only by its own light, so Christ can be known only by His own Spirit.
