The Jesus Revolution

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13

Beginning in America in the 60s, there was a great unrest among young people. They began to rebel against the government and society. It was a generation that began to take hallucinating drugs, such as LSD. Drugs were destroying so many lives, and kids were committing suicide.

The Vietnam War was happening. People were unhappy and protesting against the war. When Marines came back from Vietnam, they were greeted by angry protestors holding signs. It was a very hard time for veterans to come back home and face a hostile nation.

In the early 70s, the Jesus Revolution was in full swing. It was a move of the Holy Spirit, bringing widespread revival across the nation. The Lord used Chuck and Kay Smith to reach the hippies. Kay had such a burden for them. An excerpt from the Calvary Chapel Magazine stated:

During the “Jesus Movement” that followed, hordes of hippies began to follow Christ as Lord and Savior. Many were discipled by Chuck and quickly saw themselves transformed by life-changing truth from God’s Word. ... [He stated] any tremendous work God accomplished through him was solely that—God’s work, due to God’s grace.

The Lord touched my life, and I was saved in 1972 through Chuck Smith, as I heard him on the television. During the Jesus People Movement, I was privileged to watch a great revival that spread through the entire United States of America! It all started with Calvary Chapel. I watched hundreds and thousands of hippies come to know the Lord.

God’s hand was upon Pastor Chuck Smith and his wife Kay, along with Pastor Romaine. I know God is still moving today, but things have changed spiritually. We need to pray on our knees that God will bring another revival.

The first step is a deep repentance, a breaking down of heart, a getting down into the dust before God, with deep humility, and a forsaking of sin.
