Are You Neglecting God’s Salvation?
For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?
Hebrews 2:2-4
The writer of Hebrews used incredible language. Paul was very persuasive when he used the Scriptures to sway the Jews who were being tempted to return to the Law. Throughout the Old Testament and the New Testament, God has spoken to mankind of His salvation, only attained through His Son. If everything spoken by angels has come true, then we cannot escape God’s judgment if we neglect so great a salvation.
Everything spoken to Zacharias by an angel came true: “... your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John” (Luke 1:13). Zacharias was struck dumb because of his unbelief. It was not until the birth of his son and his confirmation of the child’s name that his speech returned:
“I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings. But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time” (Luke 1:19-20).
In Luke 1:31-32, everything spoken to Mary by an angel, she believed, and it came to pass.
“...behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. ...and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
Angels declared God sent His Son to be the Savior of the world; it would be wise not to neglect so great a salvation that is freely given.
“...for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
