Patriot Day

By a joint resolution approved on December 18, 2021, Congress designated September 11th as “Patriot Day” and requested the observance be annually recognized as “National Day of Service and Remembrance.” Today marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.
People watched in disbelief as two of four hijacked planes were flown into the Twin Towers at the World Trade Centre in New York City. Meanwhile, the other two hijacked planes continued to fly toward their targets. One intentionally crashed into the Pentagon, killing 189 people, while the other, it is believed, was rapidly heading in the direction of the White House. Risking their lives, brave passengers and crew fought to regain control of the plane, but it eventually crashed into an open field in Pennsylvania. These suicidal, terror attacks were attributed to al-Qaeda Islamic extremists.
The September 11th terrorist attack in the year 2001 was considered to be one of the most catastrophic events in America’s history. In one dreadful day, nearly 3,000 Americans were killed––innocent men, women and children. People trapped inside the towers, knowing they might not survive, used their cell phones to say their final goodbyes to their loved ones. Everyone watching the news was shocked. Family members of those trapped must have felt helpless while still hoping that their loved ones somehow survived. Imagine the grief and broken hearts of those who lost a family member or friend. Spirits were crushed under the tremendous loss and grief. This is a day that should never be forgotten.
The 9/11 Memorial and Museum honors the many lives of those who were lost. The Pentagon Memorial was also created to honor those who died. As we sadly remember 9/11, we must continue to pray for all those who grieve for their loved ones. May God draw them near to Him.
