A Chosen Generation

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
1 Peter 2:9-10

These verses show us our new spiritual status as believers. We are a chosen generation and referred to as a royal priesthood and a holy nation, His own special people. This mirrors whom God has called His elect people––the Jews. They are God’s chosen people: “For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth” (Deuteronomy 7:6).

By the foreknowledge of God, any Gentile who accepts Jesus Christ as their Savior has become an elect citizen of heaven––a part of a holy nation. They belong to God and His kingdom. Thank God, Christians are living on earth for a short while before they are taken to live in heaven forever. That is why we proclaim the praises of God, because He has literally taken us out of the darkness, from the sin that was destroying our lives, to a new life in Him.

Christians are living in His marvelous light––the light of His love, grace and mercy. That is so beautiful. God has turned on the light in our lives. We have come to Jesus, the Light of the world (John 8:12). Colossians 1:12-14 describes our transformation this way:

...giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

May God give you His full assurance that when you die, you are going to heaven because of all He has done for you!

I build on Christ, the Rock of ages; on His sure mercies described in His word, and on His promises, all which I know are yea and amen.
