Labor Day

Then to Adam He [God] said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it’; cursed is the ground because of you; with hard labor you shall eat from it all the days of your life.”
Genesis 3:17 NASB

Since the beginning of time in the Garden of Eden, the Bible reveals the consequences of what is commonly known as the Fall of Mankind. The seduction of the serpent caused our parents, Adam and Eve, to sin. The ground became cursed, and since then, work has become toil. A farmer’s work to make a living is hard. Whether sitting behind a desk or doing construction, men work hard to provide for their homes and families.

Labor Day is a federal holiday that is observed on the first Monday in September. It is a time of tribute to the many achievements of American workers and is often celebrated with city parades. Families generally get together and have barbeques and relax.

The first Labor Day in history was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in agreement with the proposals of the Central Labor Union. Later, other states followed suit. Grover Cleveland, our 22nd, and 24th President, signed into law that the first Monday in September each year, should be a national holiday.

Labor Day has often been considered to be the unofficial end of summer. As early as August, many children have already started going back to school. Most people have already taken their summer vacations. In September, the mornings and evenings grow cooler, and Fall is on the horizon. Decorations for Thanksgiving are already seen in the stores, as people start to prepare for the festivities.

Take time to rest and relax this Labor Day, as the remaining months of the year will go by so fast. As you take time to enjoy a nice break, be grateful and blessed by all God has given you.

Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil—this is a gift of God.
~Ecclesiastes 5:19 NIV~
