Faith in the Gospel
For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.
Hebrews 4:2
It is very interesting to learn what the Scriptures reveal in Hebrews 4:2. The Gospel was not only preached to us in the New Testament, it was also a message that was made known to Israel in the Old Testament. They knew of the coming Messiah. In Isaiah 61:1, we discover the meaning of the Gospel and what Jesus had come to do:
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound....”
When we heard the gospel message, faith came into play. The message was mixed with our faith. People without Jesus have to make a decision when they hear the Gospel message. Will they, by faith, choose to believe the truth and accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior? In doing so, they can enter into His rest.
The position of resting for a believer means they do not have to struggle, trying to make themselves good enough to enter into heaven, as they know they can never be good enough. Neither do they have to be anxious of God’s judgment because of Christ; they have entered a place of rest where they have peace with God.
Listen, the Gospel is not a fable; it is not a fairy tale. The Bible has been proven historically, prophetically, and scientifically with archeology. If you are wavering about the validity of the Gospel message, may God’s Spirit penetrate your heart and mind to help you make the decision to step out by faith and believe this age-old message preached by God, men and angels.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
