Wonders in Heaven
I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath: blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.
Acts 2:19-20
This prophecy was not to be fulfilled in the Apostle Peter’s lifetime. This prophecy was to be fulfilled in the future during the period of the Great Tribulation. The word wonders means “signs.” In the Last Days, God is going to show us many signs in the heavens and signs in the earth below. The word below is in regards to “the lower parts of the earth.” Deep down under the earth, God is going to show signs––wonders.
In Revelation 9, the bottomless pit is opened, and the demons held there will be let loose. I believe this is part of prophecy because it refers to signs in the earth beneath:
To him was given the key to the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit, and smoke arose out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace. So the sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke of the pit (Revelation 9:1-2).
Demons exited the pit. They had teeth like lions, wings that sounded like chariots, and tails like scorpions (Revelation 9:8-10). It will be a time of great perplexity. The word perplexity in the Greek language means “no way out.” Nation will be against nation. There will be wars and rumors of wars and there will be no way out––no solutions (Matthew 24:6-7).
Notice, the signs of blood, fire and billows of smoke. I believe, this also could be volcanic activity. According to the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History Global Volcanism program, as of August, 2022 there are 48 volcanoes that are in a continual eruption state. Again, I believe, in these Last Days, God is trying to get our attention through all these signs.
Imagine, even though the sun becomes black and the moon blood red, people’s hearts will be hardened and they will not repent. There will be opportunity to be saved, but why wait? Why not accept Christ now!
Now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation; and will you not accept it, now it is offered unto you?
