Departing From God

Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
Hebrews 3:12-13

“Beware brethren,” Paul warned. The Christian Jews needed to take inventory of their lives. What was going on in their hearts? Were they guilty of having an evil heart of unbelief? Unbelief is a sin before God. As a result of unbelief, what were they in danger of doing? They were in danger of departing from the living God––apostatizing.

Are you harboring unbelief in your heart? Unbelief will cause you to depart from your faith in Christ Jesus. God has been so good to you by showing you His love, grace, peace, and mercy. Why would you want to go? The world holds nothing for you––nothing! Look back to remember how God rescued you from your sinful lifestyle. It almost destroyed your life. Abide in the Word of God and do not leave!

There are so many people who have apostatized over the years. Hundreds and thousands of believers have sat where you now sit in the pews, but somehow deception––a lie––caused them to depart from the Lord. Other people left because of an offense, or they felt they could not cope with the trials and suffering. We need to encourage each other daily to continue in the faith and not lose heart:

Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal (2 Corinthians 4:16-18).

I am exhorting you today. Do not go back into the world. Your life is like a vapor, and it passes quickly. Then there is eternity––forever. Do not walk away from your faith; turn back to your God while you can.

“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”
~John 6:68~
