Demons Exist
Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “We exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches.” Also there were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did so. And the evil spirit answered and said, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?”
Acts 19:13-15
Some of you may not believe in demon possession, but in the city of Ephesus it was prevalent. The devil and his demons are real. I have had first-hand experience with demon possession in different places I have visited in the world.
A demon possessed person has allowed Satan to enter their life by some means. It could be by playing with Ouija boards, Tarot cards, or other occultic practices. When demons have taken over a person’s body, they are no longer in control of themselves––the devil takes over. Not everyone becomes possessed; some people become oppressed or depressed by demonic activity.
When a person becomes possessed by a demon, there can be changes in their attitude. They might not speak with their regular voice. There can be a change into a very deep voice. The person may come in and out of their altered state. When a group of strong believers in Christ prays for them, I have found it is good to address the person and not the demon.
Jesus instructed His disciples that sometimes you have to pray and fast for a demon to come out of a person’s life: “However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting” (Matthew 17:21). There is a chain of command within the ranks of demons, and some are stronger than others. It could be there are multiple demons possessing a person. The amazing truth for these tormented people is there is hope of deliverance in the name of Jesus!
There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors, and hail a materialist and a magician with the same delight.
