A Christian’s Spiritual Weapons
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—
Ephesians 6:17-18
As a Christian, learn to fight your battles with the spiritual weapons God has provided. There are two main weapons of offense to use against the enemy. The number one weapon is the Word of God––it is the sword of the Spirit (Hebrews 4:12). Read God’s Word systematically. How in the world are you going to face your battles if you fail to learn from the stories in the Bible? They have been written for our example. Learn how the people of God overcame and what caused them to be defeated.
When I read the book of Genesis, I learn about Creation. In the book of Exodus, I learn about God’s deliverance. When I come to the book of Leviticus, I learn about God’s holiness. In every book of the Bible we can learn something new about God. We can glean lessons from people’s different experiences as they faced their trials and trusted God for the outcome. Then we can apply these lessons to our own battles in life. If you are not in the Word of God, then you will have no offensive weapon.
Another offensive weapon for Christian soldiers is prayer––so important. Those fighting against demonic, spiritual foes need a life of prayer to defeat them. We are to pray in the Spirit––that is key. The Holy Spirit gives power and energy to the Christian wearing armor and wielding the sword. In our own strength, we can do nothing against Satan; we will fall. Believers can only win the battle on their knees before God. This is a position of humility and submission to the will of God.
Remember, our enemies are not human (Ephesians 6:12). Satan and his evil, demonic forces are in the spiritual realm. That is why we cannot use worldly weapons; we need spiritual weapons. In this ongoing battle, how can you avoid becoming a casualty? Put on the whole armor of God!
Satan trembles when he sees the weakest saint on their knees.
