The Word of God’s Grace

“So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.”
Acts 20:32

Paul knew this was the very last time he would see the leadership of the church in Ephesus. Although they would not see his face again, there was something significant Paul wanted to say to them. He knew that he could no longer be with them, but he also knew when he was gone, the Person who would comfort their hearts. God was with them.

As a pillar in the Church, the great Apostle Paul commended them to God and to the Word of His grace––how beautiful. The church of Ephesus belonged to God, and He would use mature leaders to teach and help any young believers grow to maturity in Christ.

Paul reminded all those who were sanctified––set apart that in store for them was an eternal inheritance. All believers in Christ have an eternal inheritance:

Ephesians 1:13-14: In Him [Jesus] you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

1 Peter 1:3-4: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you....

Perhaps recently you have suffered a loss in your family. Know this: God is with you. His grace will carry you through each difficult day. May the knowledge of the Scriptures, the hope of eternal life, and the assurance of an eternal inheritance bring you great comfort.

For the believer there is hope beyond the grave, because Jesus Christ has opened the door to heaven for us by His death and resurrection.
