Watch out for Savage Wolves!
“For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears.”
Acts 20:29-31
Wolves are a description of deceptive people who do not always come from outside of the church, as people would think, but they come from inside the church––from within the body of Christ. We have seen people who can be described as wolves rising up in the church, both in West Covina and Calvary Chapel Golden Springs.
What is the motive of wolves among the Church? They are usually selfish people who are after their own selfish desires. They seek to promote their own kingdom and their own causes. They do not seek to edify the body of Christ; they seek to edify themselves. They do not have a genuine love for the flock of God.
Notice what Paul tells us about these wolves, that they draw away the disciples after themselves––not after Christ. They are trying to build their own kingdom. Wolves try to draw people away from the local church by placing their flyers on cars in church parking lots. They are trying to build on another man’s foundation. Usually these wolves prey on young Christians. I worry about the little sheep––young Christians who do not know any better. They just have the joy of the Lord. These people who act as wolves often ask for money. Be careful. Be wise.
Examine the motive of why you are going to church. As a business man, is it to try to make more business? Are you a person who is trying to enrich yourself on others? As a young man, are you trying to prey on beautiful girls in the church?
Our motives should be pure. It should be to work together to expand the kingdom of God. Thy [God’s] kingdom come––your kingdom go!
The church does not prey on the lost; it prays for the perishing.
