The End Is at Hand
But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.
1 Peter 4:7
Peter gave insight into the prophetical timeline we are living in––the Last Days. Even in his time and age, there was great anticipation of the Lord’s return, the Tribulation Period, and the final judgment of both the living and the dead. Knowing these things are close, we are to be serious about our Christian walk. Consider what was said by the Apostle Paul previously in Ephesians 5:15-16: See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
Peter preached that the end of the world was close. Can you imagine how much closer it is today? Do you realize that 2000 years have already passed since Jesus’ death and Resurrection, and He has not yet come back? As we look at our current events––the continuing wars in the Middle East, Russia and Ukraine, the many countries experiencing a higher magnitude of earthquakes, apocalyptic floods, El Niño-driven heatwaves and storms––we are reminded that Jesus is coming soon.
Living with the expectancy of Christ’s return is one of the greatest comforts I have in my life. It is such a hope in my heart. I trust that all the promises of God are true. I love how Jesus comforted His disciples about His return, and how these same Scriptures comfort us today:
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:1-3).
What a beautiful promise. God does not lie. So many people in the church and outside of the church are worried about their future because of what is happening in the world today. They worry about losing their jobs, income and their homes; but our security is in Christ alone.
If our circumstances find us in God, we shall find God in all our circumstances.
