Resting in Hope

“For David says concerning Him: ‘I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken. Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad; moreover my flesh also will rest in hope. For You will not leave my soul in Hades, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of joy in Your presence.’ ”
Acts 2:25-28

Are you resting in hope? Or do you feel hopeless today? When people lose all hope, everything in life loses its meaning. People without God and without hope see no light at the end of the tunnel. Despair settles into their hearts, and the meaning and reason for life is lost.

Perhaps these people have focused on the evils in this world or their difficult problems and situations. Negative thoughts come to their minds, What is the point of going on; why live anymore? Life is too hard. I am better off dead than alive. As an escape, some hopeless people even contemplate suicide. If that is you today, consider what David the psalmist penned. His hope was not shaken; his hope rested in Christ, the One who overcame death and the grave. First Peter 1:3-5 tells us:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation....

You have a living hope! God does not want you to live a hopeless life. Through the power of God, He keeps you and unfolds His plan for your life as you serve Him. It is Satan, the thief, who wants to rob you of all God’s plans for your life. John 10:10 reveals his intent: The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. Do not believe his lies.

Dry your tears, weary soul, and hold on tight to your Savior; He will give you joy in His presence.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
