The Gospel in the Hands of Faithful Teachers

And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
2 Timothy 2:2

Paul was an amazing missionary. He made disciples. The Word disciple means “learner.” This speaks of young Christians who have come to Christ through faith and have submitted their lives to Him. As followers of Jesus Christ, they are now––“learners.”

I have witnessed that if a new disciple of Christ fails to sit and listen to sound, biblical teaching, they will not mature in Christ. Instead, they will become immature and carnal––living a life subject to their fleshly desires. They will have no victory over sin and the devil. They have to be taught, not only about the Person of Christ, but about the power and Person of the Holy Spirit. It is only through the power of the Holy Spirit that they can live the Christian life. Billy Graham gives us food for thought:

If you sense a longing for God, a desire to change and be a new person, that’s God speaking to your heart. And as you respond, He will give you the ability and the power to change because He has to do the changing.

Another reason a disciple is to learn about Jesus is so that they can become equipped to witness to others about Him. Every Christian has a duty to make other disciples––to teach others about Christ. In 2 Timothy 2:2, a young pastor, Timothy, was told by the Apostle Paul, his teacher, the importance of passing on to other faithful men the knowledge of Christ that he had learn.

Take people under your wing––teach them––go make disciples! Christians, spiritual speaking, are always meant to reproduce!

The church changes the world not by making converts but by making disciples.
