How Are You Living Your Life?

...no longer should [a believer] live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
1 Peter 4:2

When we give our lives to Christ, there is an instant regeneration––a spiritual birth that results in a transformation of life. We become a new creation: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17). No longer do we live our lives according to the lust of our flesh, but through the work of the Holy Spirit, we are enabled to live our lives according to the will of God.

It is always healthy to take a look at your spiritual life. As a believer, how are you living your life? If you call yourself a Christian, there has to be evidence of a changed life. If you remain in the habits of your old sins––lying, stealing, fornicating, drugs and drinking––then you are going to confuse people with your so-called Christianity. You cannot compromise.

Listen, there has to be a separation from the world. You can no longer participate in the sinful behaviors you used to do with your ungodly friends. You can still love and pray for them, but you cannot associate with them if they are doing drugs and drinking. Christians are to walk in holiness:

...as obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy” (1 Peter 1:14-15 NIV).

Practically, how are you to live a life of holiness? The Scriptures teach us to live a moral and pure life. If you are sexually active with a boyfriend or girlfriend, then you need to break off the relationship. I advise a time of six months. Why? As you attend church, remain in God’s Word, and pray, see what happens. If they fail to continue going to church, then you have your answer. If God brings you back together, then your foundation will be a spiritual relationship, not a physical relationship, and God will honor it.

Are we... so filled with the Holy Ghost, as to enjoy in our hearts, and show forth in our lives, the genuine fruits of that Spirit?
