Hold Fast Your Confession
Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
Hebrews 4:14
Jesus, as our great High Priest, is our intercessor. He has passed into the heavens and lives forever to make intercession for us (Romans 8:34). Jesus, as High Priest, is able to save the worst of sinners: Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them (Hebrews 7:25).
What did the writer of the book of Hebrews say about himself? This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief (1 Timothy 1:15). Paul considered himself to be the worst of sinners, and yet, God saved him.
Never think you are past saving. A Christian phrase once said God could save those to the “gutter most.” Is that you? Do not let the opportunity for salvation go by because you think you are unworthy to go to heaven. It is not about your unworthiness, but the worthiness of the Person who died to save you––Jesus Christ––your great High Priest.
As Jesus, the Son of God, is your High Priest, hold fast to your confession. Jesus has saved you, forgiven you, and cleansed you of your sin. He shed His blood for you on the Cross. The power of God lies in the finished work of the Cross, and the power of Christ’s Resurrection assures you of your future resurrection:
1 Corinthians 1:18: For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Philippians 3:10-11: ...that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
Be persuaded. Jesus loves you so much He died to save you.
God’s salvation is inclusive. He is able to save people of all nations, races, and ethnic groups. No matter who you are or where you are from, you can be saved through our great High Priest, Jesus Christ.
