Friendships in the Fight

But that you also may know my affairs and how I am doing, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make all things known to you; whom I have sent to you for this very purpose, that you may know our affairs, and that he may comfort your hearts.
Ephesians 6:21-22

In closing the Ephesian epistle, Paul explained that he would send Tychicus to the Ephesian church. Tychicus was a beloved brother, a most trusted messenger and colleague––a faithful minister in the Lord. Tychicus carried words of comfort. He would share of Paul’s condition and the concerns he voiced. Paul desired for the Ephesians to stay focused on the Lord––to place their full trust in Him.

Tychicus was an incredible young man. He always tried to keep in contact with Paul. Tychicus remained one of Paul’s close contacts and friends. He was not a young man who tried to build upon another man’s foundation in ministry or who took the glory for himself. Tychicus was just a genuine servant of the Lord. He truly loved and respected Paul. Tychicus was a key person in ministry because he loyally stood in support of Paul. He was used by God to lift up Paul’s hands in the work of the ministry.

Tychicus was a man of faith and no doubt a prayer warrior. He went the extra mile to protect Paul––the servant of the Lord. Paul also wrote other letters to inform churches on how he was doing. Both Tychicus and Onesimus carried news to the Colossians of what was happening in Rome where Paul was imprisoned:

Tychicus, a beloved brother, faithful minister, and fellow servant in the Lord, will tell you all the news about me. I am sending him to you for this very purpose, that he may know your circumstances and comfort your hearts, with Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They will make known to you all things which are happening here (Colossians 4:7-9).

What are you doing to come alongside those on the battlefront of Christianity? How are you lifting up their hands in the ministry?

Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, “You too? I thought I was the only one.”
