Accountability Before God
And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
Hebrews 4:13
Can anybody hide from God? No possible way. God sees everyone; nobody is hidden from His searching eyes! You can try to run from God, but it does not matter where you go. He is there! David wrote a Psalm expressing his understanding of God’s omnipresence:
Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me (Psalm 139:7-10).
Notice something else very important in this verse. Every single person is accountable for their lives before God. I want you to underline that fact in your Bible. I do not want you to ever forget it. From this time forward, you are accountable for what you do in the darkness––secretly. Again, God sees our sin; it is not hidden from His eyes.
The prophet Jeremiah pronounced God’s judgment on Israel because of their idolatry: “For My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from My face, nor is their iniquity hidden from My eyes” (Jeremiah 16:17). This is exactly what the Apostle Paul was relating to the Hebrew believers: God sees everything, and He will judge.
One day, as Christians, we are going to have to give an account of our lives to God. Let me be clear. We will not be judged for our sins, as we have repented and have been forgiven; but we shall be judged for our motives and actions. However, when the White Throne Judgment takes place, the non-believer will stand before God. Their sins were recorded: ...and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books (Revelation 20:12).
It would be good to take an examination of your life and, if need be, make things right before God.
...anyone not found written in the Book of Life
was cast into the lake of fire.
~Revelation 20:15~
