God Is in Our Midst
“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know—”
Acts 2:22
Peter made sure those in his audience listening to him came to know the person of Jesus Christ. This is important for us to know because different religions do not preach the same Jesus. For instance, the Jehovah’s Witnesses do not believe in the same Jesus as we do. They believe He was created as the archangel Michael. The Mormons believe Satan was Jesus’ brother. I often ask people, “Which Jesus do you believe in?”
When it comes to biblical doctrine, I stand upon the Word of God. I cannot believe in a false doctrine that teaches differently about the Person of Jesus Christ. Jesus is God––deity. He is not mortal like us; He is eternal. Jesus has the exact same attributes as the Father. He is Creator. John 1:1, 14 clearly states:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made ... And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
Listen to what Jesus told the Pharisees, those who constantly questioned Him to try to trap Him by His words: “You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world” (John 8:23). Why were the Jews infuriated with Him? Jesus revealed His divinity and His preexistence to them: “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM” (John 8:58). He declared He was God, the great I Am (Exodus 3:14). Hearing this, the Pharisees took up stones to stone Him.
Again, in John 10:30, Jesus told the Jews plainly: “I and My Father are one.” Once more they picked up stones to stone Him. Why? They said: “... for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God” (John 10:33). Jesus is God! Who is Jesus Christ to you?
Depend on it, my hearer, you never will go to heaven unless you are prepared to worship Jesus Christ as God.
