Have You Heard the Voice of God?

...again He designates a certain day, saying in David, “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.”
Hebrews 4:7

God designates a certain day for salvation––today! The writer of Hebrews used what David wrote in Psalm 95, to warn the Jews who were considering leaving the path of simple faith in Christ, for a path of self-righteous works:

Today, if you will hear His voice: “Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, as in the day of trial in the wilderness, when your fathers tested Me; they tried Me, though they saw My work. For  forty years I was grieved with that generation, and said, ‘It is a people who go astray in their hearts, and they do not know My ways.’ So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest’ ” (Psalm 95:7-11).

Notice, after such a long time, God still uses the same urgent message to reach the hearts of people in this generation––“Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” Salvation is not something you put off until tomorrow! The word if is conditional. It means it is contingent on hearing God’s voice. Have you heard the voice of God calling you to repentance? Then heed His voice! Do not neglect or ignore God’s voice. Respond immediately and do not put off your decision for salvation until another day. There are no guarantees that you will live another day! Do you know where you would spend eternity if you died today?

What caused God’s people to fall short of entering into His rest? They heard His voice, but hardened their hearts in rebellion. God’s people fell short of entering into His rest because of unbelief. They went astray in their hearts because of their unbelief––it destroyed them. They failed because of fear to believe the promises of God.

What is the condition of your heart before the Lord? Know this: Every time you ignore the voice of God and harden your heart, your heart becomes even harder. Before the sun goes down, make things right with God.

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
~Matthew 11:28~
