Be Saved From This Perverse Generation
And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.” Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.
Acts 2:40-41
Notice the work of the Holy Spirit in the beginning of the church. Those who heard Peter’s powerful Sermon responded and were baptized. Three thousand souls were saved. In the book of Acts, Christ’s disciples did not have to go out knocking on doors to bring people to church. They did not set up church programs or offer rewards for bringing people to church each week. Peter, in the power of the Holy Spirit, exhorted people to “be saved from this perverse generation.”
Look at what is happening around us today. We live in a perverse, crooked and self-centered generation. People watch out only for themselves. Look at the destructive sins of homosexuality, drunkenness, adultery and fornication that are prevalent in this generation. Notice the consequences victims have suffered from engaging in sexual sin. The result of adultery is broken marriages. Fornication has led to the increase of single mothers, as fathers, unwilling to do the right thing, abandon them.
When teaching a message, at times I exhort the congregation, but the people still come. This is God’s church! He speaks to each person individually. He convicts us all by His Holy Spirit, because through the power of His Word, He wants to bring about a true change in our lives. D. L. Moody rightly said, “The Bible was not given to increase our knowledge but to change our lives.” I love that.
Are you feeling anxious, hopeless and fearful in this corrupt world? If you do not know Jesus Christ, heed Peter’s exhortation today: “Be saved from this perverse generation”––come to Jesus for salvation!
Our salvation includes more than pardon from sin, deliverance from hell and a ticket to heaven. It includes all that we shall need on our journey.
