The Holy Spirit’s Revelation

And as we stayed many days, a certain prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. When he had come to us, he took Paul’s belt, bound his own hands and feet, and said, “Thus says the Holy Spirit, ‘So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man who owns this belt, and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’ ”
Acts 21:10-11

Paul stayed in Philip’s house for a number of days. While he remained among friends, a prophet named Agabus arrived at the home. He was sent by the Lord to prophesy about Paul’s future. Imagine, Paul stood before Agabus who tied himself up while everyone watched! Once again, Paul had confirmation of his future in Jerusalem––persecution––and, in Rome, death.

In Acts 11:28, we find the same prophet mentioned. Agabus was one of the prophets who came from Jerusalem to Antioch. He gave an important prophecy, one that helped people prepare for a worldwide famine:

And in these days prophets came from Jerusalem to Antioch. Then one of them, named Agabus, stood up and showed by the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine throughout all the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius Caesar (Acts 11:27-28).

Because of Agabus’ prophecy, the disciples, each according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren dwelling in Judea (Acts 11:29). Think about it. God is always so faithful to send us His Word to help prepare us for the future and to provide for our needs. No matter what you are facing today, know that God is on your side. He is for you; He is not working against you.

The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? The LORD is for me among those who help me....
~Psalm 118:6-7~
