Days of Revival
Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
Acts 2:38-39
When Peter preached his sermon, in one day three thousand people were moved by the Holy Spirit to come to Christ and be saved. This is not a myth; it really happened. The Holy Spirit was poured out, and a revival broke forth! Where were they going to place three thousand people to teach them God’s Word? What a good problem to have!
What is revival? How can we identify a revival in the body of Jesus Christ? We can see the evidence of a revival when we witness people getting saved, whether there are one, two, or a thousand people coming forward to be saved. People are moved by God’s Spirit to come to Christ. Know this: God is still moving, and He has not stopped moving. Revival still happens today!
We are all part of a revival. Be aware of what God is doing in the midst of people’s lives in the Church. God is adding to the church and reviving His people. There is a spiritual awakening as people move away from the darkness and come to the light found only in Jesus Christ. He declared Himself to be the Light of the world: “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life” (John 8:12). Those who accept Jesus as Savior are saved and receive eternal life!
The promise of the Holy Spirit is not only for those we have read about in the book of Acts. It is for us and for our children––for all who are afar off––as many as the Lord our God has called. Think about it: God has called you and me, and we are a long way off from what happened in the book of Acts, and yet, here we are––a part of this prophecy. I thank God for it!
You cannot stop a revival any more than you can start it. It is altogether in the hands of God.
