The One Ruler in Israel
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.”
Micah 5:2
The Prophet Micah gave a prophecy about the birth of Jesus Christ. Israel knew from the study of Old Testament Scriptures that the Messiah would come from the small town of Bethlehem. They were assured of the One to be Ruler in Israel. He was from everlasting, having no beginning and no end––eternal. He was God––deity.
Jesus would leave His heavenly home, the throne of God, and His Father’s side, to come down to earth and live among mortal men. How was this accomplished? Jesus humbled Himself, taking on human flesh––as a babe, in the womb of Mary. In Philippians 2:6-7, we find the truth of Jesus’ two natures––both human and divine:
…who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
God told His people He was sending His Son. There are many Scriptures written by the prophets that speak of Jesus’ miraculous birth. The Pharisees, scribes and Sadducees knew and taught the people the Holy Scriptures. God wrote the Gospel message in the inspired Word of God to give opportunity to those who truly seek Him to find the Christ––the coming King.
From Genesis to Revelation, you will find Jesus revealed as the Christ. God used the prophets of the Old Testament to tell God’s people their Messiah was coming. Yet how many people were so busy with their lives that they failed to witness the miracle of His birth? In the New Testament, John the Baptist, the messenger, pointed people to Christ. Do not get so busy with your life that you miss the real reason for Christmas––it is Christ. Know this: With the knowledge of His birth comes a choice. Will you allow Jesus to be Ruler of your life?
For Jesus to be Lord of your life means that He is the ruler, the boss, the master of your whole life. He cannot be Lord of a part—He must be given control of the entire life––the whole life.
