Ministering to the Saints

For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. Hebrews 6:10

Paul the Apostle commended the Hebrew Christians’ work for the Lord and their labor of love. God was well aware of every good deed that had exalted His name. The Lord would not forget the work and labor of love, because it had greatly benefited the saints––believers in Christ. They continued to minister to the saints from the past to the present and future.

God is also aware of everything we do that gives glory to His name. He sees how we are lovingly ministering to people and taking care of their spiritual needs and, at times, their physical needs. God does not sleep or slumber; He sees everything (Psalm 121:4). He will reward all we do in His name: “Behold, I (Jesus) am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to each one according to the merit of his deeds (earthly works, faithfulness)” (Revelation 22:12 AMP).

The word minister is the word “to serve.” We are to love people by serving them. That is key in ministry. We are to do everything from the motivation of our love for Christ. Everything is to be done from this perspective. Our love for Christ overflows toward others. It truly is a labor of love. We are driven to do all we can in the name of Jesus, knowing that our labor is not in vain: Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:58).

It is important to know that we do not do good works to bring any attention to ourselves. We do not receive the glory––God does. The things we do give glory to God, not ourselves. All we do is for Him, not for us. When we sacrificially serve and help others, we are exhibiting Christlike qualities. Christians are to genuinely express the love of God to others, which brings Him glory.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
~Matthew 5:16~
