The Wonder of the Christmas Story

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16

When was the last time you stood in awe and wondered at something? Many people make it their aim in life to go see the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World: The Great Pyramid of Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the statue of Zeus at Olympia, The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes, and the Lighthouse of Alexandria. Yet there is a sight more wondrous than these––Christ in the manger––the wonder of the Christmas story.

The wonder of God’s love is something so miraculous. God the Father sent His Son to save us from our sin. Lost humanity, suffering in the shadow of death, needed a Savior. Have you considered the wonder of Mary, a virgin overshadowed by the power of God to carry the Son of God in her womb? Then there is the incredible wonder of “God with us,” Emmanuel, wrapped in human flesh:

John 1:14: And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Philippians 2:6-7: [Jesus] ...who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.

Have you read the wonder of Christmas in the Word of God? The Bible, the Holy Scriptures, with inerrancy foretold of Jesus’ coming and His birth. This Christmas, do not lose the wonder of the season; Jesus is the reason for the season. Beholding the wonder of Christmas––God in a manger––gives sinners the opportunity for a changed life. Will you believe and embrace the wonder of the Christmas story this year?

Christ is born in Bethlehem! Christ, by highest heaven adore, Christ the everlasting Lord! Late in time behold Him come, offspring of a virgin’s womb. Veiled in flesh the Godhead see; hail th’ incarnate Deity, pleased as man with men to dwell,  Jesus, our Emmanuel.
