Thanksgiving

...in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:18

As the season changes, and the beautiful colors of fall transform the scenery before us, we are to be reminded that we have been given a world full of blessings. Let us not withhold our expressions of gratitude to God Almighty. Thankfulness that is put into heartfelt words of prayer has a healing effect upon the soul, and it has an incredible effect upon all those who hear us.

Be thankful to God that we live in the greatest country on earth! America has been blessed. In less fortunate countries, people hear of all the incredible opportunities and possibilities found in what has become known as the American dream. Anyone who works hard in America can make something of themselves. A person’s life is not mapped out for them by race or social class. President Theodore Roosevelt, the youngest President in our nation, captured the spirit of thankfulness when he said:

"No people on earth have more cause to be thankful than ours, and this is said reverently, in no spirit of boastfulness in our own strength, but with the gratitude to the Giver of good who has blessed us."

Christians are to be thankful in everything. God is at work no matter the situations we face in this life. We have this promise to hold on to: And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

Thank God for all Christ has done and continues to do for us. As your family gathers together this Thanksgiving, make sure each person shares why they are thankful. Have a great Thanksgiving with your family this year.

May you remember this Thanksgiving not only the obvious gifts that God has given you, but His spiritual blessings, as well. The greatest gift of all is Jesus Christ, and the salvation God offers us in Him.
