The Lion of the Tribe of Judah
For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood. And it is yet far more evident if, in the likeness of Melchizedek, there arises another priest who has come, not according to the law of a fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an endless life.
Hebrews 7:14-16
It is evident that our Lord arose from the tribe of Judah, a tribe Moses never referred to as being a priesthood. Yet even as far back as in the book of Genesis, there is reference through Melchizedek of a far greater priesthood to come. Some believe Melchizedek was a type of Christ, pointing to Him as a High Priest according to His power of an endless life.
The Old Testament priesthood was disabled when Jesus came in the New Testament. Jesus came to fulfill the law: “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill (Matthew 5:17). Seeing as the law is fulfilled in Him, we are now under a new era of grace. Paul explained it this way:
Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor (Galatians 3:24-25).
Ceremonial laws could not make a person righteous. Jesus has made us righteous in Him: For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21). Christ an innocent Man, the Son of God, died on the Cross for each one of our sins. He resurrected and became our High Priest seated in the heavens at the right hand of God (Mark 16:19).
After death we face eternal life, either in heaven or hell. Embrace the truth of Jesus being your High Priest! From the standpoint of His genealogy–– which is accurately recorded as an undeniable proof of His humanity, and also His deity––Jesus, as High Priest, has the power to give you an endless life in eternity. He alone can save you!
“Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed...”
