Thanksgiving Blessings

Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples!
Psalm 105:1

As the summer season changes, and we watch the beautiful colors of fall transform the scenery before us, we are reminded, especially at Thanksgiving, of all that we have been given––God’s abundant blessings. Consider the psalmist’s first words: Oh, give thanks to the LORD! During Thanksgiving dinner this year, I believe it is a wonderful tradition for each family member to openly say the reason for why they are thankful. It is a good time to express our gratitude to God Almighty.

What are some of the things you are thankful for? I am sure you are thankful for your loved ones––your families and your friends. Although times are difficult financially, and many families are struggling to put food on the table, I am sure you can be thankful for God’s divine provision as He meets your daily needs. Praise God for His eternal faithfulness!

America is a country blessed by God’s grace. Are you thankful that you live in a free country where the Gospel is freely preached? You are able to worship God without constraint. What does the Psalmist declare next? Call upon His name. People from every nation can call upon the name of the LORD for salvation.

Lastly, the psalmist implores us to make known His deeds among the peoples! As friends and family gather from across the country for this year’s Thanksgiving feast, be open to share what God has done in your life. As God opens the doors, share your testimony with them.

When others see your transformation and your heartfelt thankfulness to God, they will be drawn to Him. In this season of Thanksgiving, may your loved ones come to know Christ as they call on His name to receive salvation.

May you remember this Thanksgiving not only the obvious gifts that God has given you, but His spiritual blessings, as well. The greatest gift of all is Jesus Christ, and the salvation God offers us in Him.
