Thanksgiving
“Praise the LORD, call upon His name; declare His deeds among the peoples, make mention that His name is exalted. Sing to the LORD, for He has done excellent things; this is known in all the earth.”
Isaiah 12:4-5
From far and wide, families will gather together to celebrate Thanksgiving. Yet times are difficult. Many struggling families will find it hard to provide the usual festive dinner for their children and guests.
America is a divided nation, and among the nations of the world, there is such unrest. Yet God is in the midst of us! In Him, we have peace and sweet reflection on what really counts. God has given us each other–– family and friends. He has given us Christ––our strength and comfort.
Long ago a prophecy was given. Isaiah spoke of a ruler from the line of Jesse, a Branch––Christ the coming King. The Spirit of God shall be upon Him, and He shall rule in righteousness. The future of Israel is bright; from the four corners of the earth, they shall be gathered to their King! Their Messiah shall judge wickedness, and His peace shall forever reign. During the millennium period, for a thousand years, even the lion shall dwell in peace with the lamb.
In the light of this glorious background is written a hymn of praise. God’s comfort and His salvation are given to all those who are His. Trust has replaced fear. God is in the midst of His people! God is not only Israel’s salvation; He has given the Gentiles the same opportunity to be saved. Christ is ours! He who is “ ‘...as a light to the Gentiles, that You [Christ] should be My salvation to the ends of the earth’ ” (Isaiah 49:6).
This Thanksgiving, make mention of Christ’s name and give Him thanks for all He has done for you and your family.
May you also remember this Thanksgiving not only the obvious gifts that God has given you, but His spiritual blessings, as well. The greatest gift of all is Jesus Christ, and the salvation God offers us in Him.
