Wealth Can Take Wings!
Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Consider your ways! Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the temple, that I may take pleasure in it and be glorified,” says the Lord. “You looked for much, but indeed it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says the Lord of hosts. “Because of My house that is in ruins, while every one of you runs to his own house.”
Haggai 1:7-9
The Lord repeated His strong exhortation to His people––“Consider your ways!” If only they would repent and be obedient. There was plenty of timber in the surrounding mountains to rebuild the Temple. Why not do what was right? If they placed their priorities in order and built the Temple, God would be glorified. He would bless His people with provision in the land.
In getting their attention, it was not by coincidence that their finances had gone. The Lord had blown them away! He was chastening His people. Through the prophet Haggai, He gave them the reasons for their declining financial issues––disobedience and selfishness. Only when they fully obeyed His voice could He bless them. Obedience always brings blessings.
Even though this exhortation is found in the Old Testament, it is for every one of us today! “Consider your ways!” How many people’s bank accounts have gone down the drain because God was trying to get their attention? If you have placed the Lord last instead of first, ask Him to forgive you for your neglectful, disobedient behavior.
God can help you rearrange your priorities. His intent is to bless your life; He is more than able to restore your finances. Every day, place God first by developing an intimate friendship with Him. Obey God’s Word in your giving. You cannot outgive God. Be a good steward of all He gives to you, and He will bless your life.
God will unveil His glory before His servant’s eyes, and He will place all His treasures at the disposal of such a one, for He knows that His honor is safe in such consecrated hands.
