Deceptive and Persuasive Words

Now this I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words.
Colossians 2:4

It is very possible that sometime in your Christian walk a deceptive person might come along to try and convince you about other beliefs and philosophies. Some Christians may fall prey to the teachings of traditionalism that will cause them to fall back into legalism and religion instead of a relationship with Jesus Christ.

You will come across people in school or college who will say, “There is no God.” They may go ahead and present an argument for evolution, but the Bible states that God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). He spoke everything into being in six days! Again, be careful not to listen to people who are not rooted and grounded in the Word of God––in God’s truth. If you start listening to different mindsets, then pretty soon you could be a candidate to be deceived by their deceptive and persuasive words.

Be aware of the danger of deception when you invite a Jehovah’s Witnesses to come into your home. If you are not well-versed in Scripture, they can cause you to be confused about your faith in Christ. They will try to convince you by persuasive words and take you away from true Christianity. It is the same strategy with Mormons because they do not know Christ. He is God incarnate––He became flesh. Do not be moved away from the truth.

That is why it is imperative to know God. You need to understand who you are in Jesus Christ. Grow to full maturity in your relationship with Him. Do not be deceived by any other philosophy. People can be argumentative. They feel they are always right and never wrong. Some are very self-righteous, and it is best not to engage in conversation with them.

Besides, through sound teaching––line upon line, teaching through the Bible––you should already know the Word of God. You should know who you are in Jesus Christ. That is the best knowledge to have––the knowledge of the truth.

There are two ingredients to deceit; a good bit of truth and a few little lies.
