Asking God for Wisdom
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
James 1:5
I would like to reflect on what the Apostle James had to say to us in James 1:5. Do we lack wisdom in life? Yes, of course we do! When we have a difficult problem, we usually ask somebody else’s opinion about it. It is wise to receive wisdom from godly people––that is true––but our first resource should be to inquire of God. We need to ask God for His wisdom. He will speak divine wisdom to us right from His throne!
Understand, people are imperfect; they can make mistakes in giving advice. However, God never makes mistakes. He has infinite wisdom. God always gives you the right answer to your problems in life. He has the solutions. Always look to the Lord.
I find that when people do not ask the Lord for His wisdom, they get into trouble. There are those who lack common sense in their decision-making. I believe with all my heart that, as a Christian reads through the Bible, they can gain wisdom. There are so many examples written for us to learn from (1 Corinthians 10:11).
The book of Proverbs is full of wisdom and knowledge that we can apply to our difficult situations. Understand, it is only when we apply the knowledge we have gained that we become wise.
Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise. Many men know a great deal, and are all the greater fools for it. There is no fool so great a fool as a knowing fool. But to know how to use knowledge is to have wisdom.
