Members of One Another
…we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.
Romans 12:5
Some people wonder about church membership. The Bible teaches that we are all members of each other. There is no need for a membership or to have a certificate given to you saying you are members of Calvary Chapel Golden Springs. In Jesus Christ, we are members of each other, and as we fellowship together, we have a common communion.
When you come to church, do not just sit through the service and immediately leave. Take the time to get to know someone. When we just come and go, people will begin to feel like a number. We are a family in Christ. We have all kinds of people in the congregation from all walks of life and from all different ethnic backgrounds. Yet we are one body––all sons and daughters of God.
Sometimes people begin to build friendships in church that become cliques. Those in cliques only hang out with certain people they like. That is not good. Why? What often develops among their select group is spiritual pride. They begin to look down on others who are not a part of their group. People are made to feel like they do not belong because they are not spiritual enough. That causes division. God help us! Seriously, there should be no respecter of persons in the body of Christ. We are all the same in God’s eyes.
In fact, I believe it is good, once in a while, to invite other people from our congregation to our homes to fellowship. On occasion, ask another believer to go out to eat. We all have a responsibility to get to know each other. Go out of your way and be sensitive to others.
We are one unit–-brothers and sisters in Christ. Open your heart to be of one mind and one spirit with others. When we are one, God will bring revival. I challenge you, take time to fellowship, and you will be blessed with the new friendships you will make.
The physical presence of other Christians is a source of incomparable joy and strength to the believer.
