Veterans Day

Blessed be the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle—

Today is was Veterans Day; it was formerly called Armistice Day. November 11 marks the end of World War 1, which happened on November 11, 1918. However, Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. Military veterans and should not be confused with Memorial Day, which remembers those who have died in serving our great country.

The high cost of our freedom should never be forgotten. Veterans Day reminds us to pause and remember to honor those men and women from all branches of the military who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. They have fought courageously to keep America free! Marines lived and died by this one important motto: “Until they are home, no man left behind.” Our dead and wounded were never left behind on the battlefield. Each Marine loyally took care of the man next to him. It was ingrained in our hearts to always look out for the welfare of other Marines. We were brothers-in-arms and would willingly die for one another.

Sadly, the world in which we live is even more chaotic. It has been said that Israel has suffered the worst loss of life since the holocaust. Russia continues its hostile war with Ukraine. China is still threatening to invade Taiwan, while North Korea remains a major threat to South Korea and the world. Threats of nuclear weapons, cyber-attacks, man-made infectious diseases, and terrorism are still global concerns. If that is not bad enough, inflation is at a record high. Prices for food, electricity and gas have skyrocketed. Families are struggling.

People wonder, Are all these events leading up to World War III? As Christians, we know we are living in the Last Days. As we patiently await our Lord’s return, we must continue to intercede for the many men and women who are still fighting for freedom.

Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.
