Jesus Our Forerunner

...where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
Hebrews 6:20

Jesus has gone before us into heaven. He is the Forerunner, seated at the right hand of God. He came from eternity, died on the Cross, and three days later, He rose from the dead. After 40 days, Jesus ascended to heaven. The Holy Spirit was sent to all believers who gathered in an upper room in Jerusalem. Pentecost was the birth of the Church (Acts 2).

One day, Jesus will return to take us home to heaven. Before His death, He spoke to His Disciples about the way to heaven:

Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know” (John 14:1-4).

Thomas asked, “Lord, we do not know where you are going, and how can we know the way?” (John 14:5). The Lord replied, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). Jesus went before us! Hebrews 12:2 describes how this came about:

...who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

What office did our Jesus take for us? He became our High Priest. This means the earthly, Levitical priesthood came to an end. Jesus, as our High Priest, has brought us into the very holy Presence of God behind the veil. How long will the Lord be in this position? The Bible tells us Jesus will be our High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek (Psalm 110:4). This is an everlasting Priesthood.

With the veil removed by the rending of Jesus’ flesh, with nothing on God’s side to prevent us from entering, why do we tarry without? Why do we consent to abide all our days just outside the Holy of Holies and never enter at all to look upon God?
