God’s Answer to Sincere Prayers

About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, “Cornelius!” And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, “What is it, lord?” So he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God.”
Acts 10:3-4

God in His grace was about to touch Cornelius’ life. Through his sincere prayers, he was seeking the Lord. Out of millions of people, notice how God is interested in this one devoted person.

Cornelius was an important man, a Roman Centurion, who had command of about 100 men. In the Roman military, there were 6,000 soldiers to a legion. Each legion was divided up into 10 cohorts––a tactical military unit generally composed of 480 soldiers, with 6 centurions. There are 60 centurions in a legion. The centurion was the backbone to the Roman Army.

On this one occasion, as Cornelius prayed, about the ninth hour, which was 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon, he saw an appearance of an angel in a vision. The angel told him his prayers had been heard by God. Again, Cornelius was not a Christian, but here was a man with a true, sincere heart seeking after God, and the Lord answered his prayers. What does the Bible teach us in Romans 10:12-13 NIV?

For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Where do our prayers go? They go straight up into the presence of God! God becomes so personal to each one of us individually. His ears are wide open to our sincere prayers. Those who seek the Lord and call upon Him in all sincerity will find Him. Proverbs 8:17 reveals this truth to seeking hearts: “I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me”––beautiful. Are you seeking the Lord today? He will answer you.

Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.
~Isaiah 55:6~
