Grace Be With You
This salutation by my own hand—Paul. Remember my chains. Grace be with you. Amen.
Colossians 4:18
Paul gave his final salutation; we see that he wrote this letter by his own hand. At times, Paul dictated his letters to someone who wrote them for him, as it was thought he had bad eyesight. The final sentence of his salutation to the believers in Colosse had this moving request––do not forget me while I am in chains.
The Lord really touched my life when I read Paul’s last request––the impression of Paul in chains and all he had to bear. It made me think of the chains that other Christians have to bear in other countries hostile to Christianity. There are Christians all around the world who are forced to bear chains because of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Do we forget about them? Oh, how we need not to forget people who are suffering and being persecuted––believers who are in chains in India and Palestine and all those suffering in chains in Muslim countries––because they have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior.
In America at this time, we are free to go to church and worship God. We are free to preach the Gospel. Perhaps it is only for a short time, as things are changing rapidly, but for now, we are free. I pray, as the times are changing, that many more people will be saved through the teaching of God’s Word. May God help us to take up the cross, die to self, and live for Christ, no matter what happens in the future to come.
May we have a priority to be in the house of the Lord––to grow in grace. Grace––God’s unmerited favor. I thank God for His amazing grace. May God help us to hear what Paul has said to us in the book of Colossians, and may we always have an ear to hear what the Spirit of God is saying to us––the Church.
Are you continuing to grow in God’s grace?
...grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
