A Living Sacrifice
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire.
Hebrews 12:28-29
It is amazing how many Christians have one foot in the world and one foot in the Church. They struggle with carnality, going back and forth, and they really do not have the peace of God. Who has the peace of God? Those who walk by the Spirit of God. They are the ones who are controlled by the Spirit because they have chosen to submit their lives to Christ.
In Romans 12:1-2, Paul says:
I beseech [beg] you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
In the Old Testament, they made sacrifices, offering the whole animal to God. But the Bible says that if you are a true Christian, you are to put your whole body, your whole person, on top of the altar. You are to give your hands, your eyes, your feet, your tongue, your mouth, and your ears to the Lord. Everything belongs to God––present your entire body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God.
Why? Hebrews 12:28-29 tells us why. We are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, and because of that, we must serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. How important it is to have “reverence and godly fear” for our God is a consuming fire. Those who do not believe, He will judge with unquenchable fire; and those who believe, He will purge with the fire of His holiness.
When you come back to God for pardon and salvation, come with all you have to lay all at his feet. Come with your body, to offer it as a living sacrifice upon His altar. Come with your soul and all its powers, and yield them in willing consecration to your God and Saviour. Come, bring them all along––everything, body, soul, intellect, imagination, acquirements––all, without reserve.
