A King Chosen by God

And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him [David]. For we will not sit down till he comes here.” So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the LORD said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward.
1 Samuel 16:11-13

King Saul was rejected by God because of his continuous disobedience. A new king would be chosen from among the eight sons of Jesse the Bethlehemite. Samuel told Jesse the Lord had not chosen any of the seven sons he had seen so far, and he asked him if there was another son. At that time, David was not among his brothers because he was taking care of the sheep.

David was immediately sent for and brought before Samuel. There David stood with his red hair, bright eyes, and ruddy looking appearance. The moment David walked in, the Lord spoke in the ear of Samuel and said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” Incredibly, a shepherd boy was chosen to be King. David was not chosen because he was tall and good looking; he was chosen because he had the right heart––The LORD has sought for Himself a man after His own heart... (1 Samuel 13:14).

God is the one who chooses and anoints a person to serve Him. Often times, He reveals them to leaders who recognize God’s anointing on their life. People are certainly not chosen because of their good looks, wealth or education. The Lord always looks at the heart of a man or woman; He is the One who qualifies them.

Like David, with his sheep ... Learn your lessons well in the schoolroom of obscurity. God is preparing you as His chosen arrow. As yet your shaft is hidden in His quiver, in the shadows ... but at the precise moment ... He will reach for you and launch you to that place of His appointment.
