The Dispensation of God’s Grace

For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles— if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you, how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already....
Ephesians 3:1-3

Paul was a prisoner. He was not comfortable, but uncomfortable––cold, thirsty and hungry. Yet he had the heart of God to write a letter to the Ephesian Church. In doing so, he wrote to each of us, individually, a letter of love, grace and peace. The word dispensation speaks of stewardship. It means “a house manager.” Paul was a house manager of the Gospel of grace.

Paul communicated to the Ephesians about the mystery of the Church and the dispensation of God’s grace. A mystery in the Bible is literally a revelation that was hidden in the past, but has now become revealed. Paul made known the mystery of God’s grace to the Jews and the Gentiles.

Remember, the first church was Jewish, not Gentile. The Jews had a difficult time accepting the Gentiles. Judaizers insisted the Gentiles be circumcised to be saved––not so. That was the Law! Paul was called to preach the Gospel of grace to the Gentiles. He taught that for a person to be saved, they needed to be born again of the Spirit of God and accept Christ by faith, and the grace of God would be extended to them.

As a Christian, first of all it is important to know your position in Christ. Then as you further study the book of Ephesians, you will learn what you are to do for Christ. If you do not know your Master and do not understand your calling, the mystery of His grace, and the anointing of God in your life, then how can you perform what Christ wants you to do?

Let this be to you the mark of true Gospel preaching––where Christ is everything, and the creature is nothing; where it is salvation all of grace, through the work of the Holy Spirit applying to the soul the precious blood of Jesus.
