The Good Confession
I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing, which He will manifest in His own time....
1 Timothy 6:13-15
Timothy had a good confession before men and God––a good witness of the Christian faith in word and in deed. Paul gave him a charge. Timothy was accountable to God and Jesus Christ for everything entrusted to him as a minister of the Gospel. He was to remain blameless, knowing that one day Jesus was going to return. As a young minister, he must complete his call.
Timothy was to follow the example of Christ, who kept His good confession in front of Pontius Pilate. Under torturous conditions, He was without spot––He had no sin––blameless. In John 18:36-37, before being sentenced to death by crucifixion, Jesus was a perfect witness as He spoke to Pilate of His Kingship:
“My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.” Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth.”
Do you have a good confession and witness of the truth before God and men? I urge you to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness because we are not of this world! Jesus will come again. In your Christian walk, if you live with expectancy of Christ’s return, it will help you desire to obey God’s Word and live a blameless life before Him:
...we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure (1 John 3:2-3).
Have a good confession and daily live in expectancy of Christ’s return.
Better to confess Christ 1000 times now and be despised by men, than be disowned by Christ before God on the day of Judgment.
